What is Pennywize

Pennywize Online is a complete online system that will protect your valuable website from password traders and brute force hacking attempts as well as providing you with comprehensive daily statistics about which members are logging into your website and how much they are downloading.

Password trading is when an account in your members only section is distributed to other people through websites or chat services. If not attended to quickly, your website could be flooded with thousands of illegal ‘members’ all logging in under one account. This not only costs you a fortune in bandwidth, but can overload your server, grinding it to a halt. Imagine how much revenue you could lose if your site was attacked overnight and was down for several hours.

How does Pennywize stop these password traders?

Once installed, Pennywize will monitor every hit to your members section. If it notices that an account is logging too many hits from different IP addresses, it will disable the account and notify you by email of its actions. The ‘threshold’ of IP addresses is completely configurable by you, and can be changed at any time by you.

What are “Brute Force Attacks”?

There are many programs now available which can be downloaded and configured to attack your server and try and break into your members section. These programs try thousands of commonly known username & password combinations or simply go through every password combination possible. These kinds of attacks will grind your server to a halt and suck up huge amounts of bandwidth. Fortunately, they are completely preventable.

How does Pennywize stop these brute force attacks?

As part of your complete protection, Pennywize will monitor all failed login attempts to your members section. If it detects that there have been too many failed login attempts from a single IP address in a given amount of time, it will block that IP address from access to your members section for a length of time.
